Early Fall Family Photo Shoot in the Woods

Families with human kid and fur kids (read: dogs and cats) are some of my most favorite pet photography clients.

Sure, it’s often organized chaos with all those beings running amok. I love every second of documenting family life as it unfolds.

Here in Minnesota, I think fall is the best time for family photos. Something about the return of schedules, crisp mornings and football (and also the impending holiday season) get me excited for cozy family portraits. An urban portrait near the Stone Arch bridge, perhaps? Or the quintessential family photo in the grass or woods? Minneapolis has a plethora of amazing locations that are beautiful and also kid and dog friendly. We can create amazing family portraits with your pets.

When I work with families I treat all of the beings, including the dogs, as family members. Because they are…..

This means dogs and cats are included in the family photos, and their needs are as important as the kids.. I will not just tie the dogs to a tree and focus on the human family. Your dog or cat will be part of the traditional family photo combinations.

As a busy mom myself, I know family logistics can be a nightmare. I’ll take care of the details and help you prepare, so you can arrive on session day feeling relaxed and confident. I expect pets and kids to be their beautiful imperfect selves. It’s normal to have short attention spans! We will make it a fun experience for all the beings, even your reluctant spouse.

Here’s what Kate, the mom of this crew, had to say about her pet portrait experience:

I can’t say enough great things about working with Lisa. We had a fall session with myself, husband, 7 year old son, and our two 70lb rescue dogs. Lisa was great about working with the dogs and our son-keeping all entertained. We were able to get several cool backgrounds at our location:bridge, barn, woods, field…just beautiful! Lisa is super knowledgeable and passionate about what she does. I highly recommend!

Before I was a pet photographer I was a human photographer. I know how to pose dogs, kids and adults to make them look their best.

Here’s a gallery from a recent photo session in Rogers. I loved working with this beautiful family.

Family photos are about documenting your precious family as it is right now. After all, you have only 18 short fall seasons with your children, and even less time with your pets. Let’s create some meaningful artwork that you can enjoy for years to come. Imagine how happy you will be looking at beloved family portrait, hanging above your couch or fireplace.
